Magma Cubes: Sizes, Magma Cream and Froglights

Magma cubes are fireproof Nether slimes that split into smaller cubes when killed: a large one has 16 HP, a medium 4 and a small 1. They are most common in basalt deltas and also spawn in Nether fortresses and Nether wastes. Medium and large ones can drop magma cream for Fire Resistance potions, and a frog that eats a small one drops a froglight.

Where do magma cubes spawn?

AreaGroup size (Java)
Basalt deltas (by far the most common)2-5
Nether fortresses4
Nether wastes (rare)4

They spawn at any light level, even on magma blocks, and treasure bastion remnants have a magma cube spawner under the bridge. See the Nether.

How do magma cubes split?

Kill a large cube (16 HP, 4 experience) and it splits into 2-4 medium ones (4 HP, 2 experience), which split into 2-4 small ones (1 HP, 1 experience). They are immune to fall and fire damage, are not slowed by lava and can jump out of it, but powder snow hurts them for 5 damage every two seconds.

What do magma cubes drop?

Only medium and large cubes drop magma cream: 0-1 (25%) on Java and 0-2 on Bedrock, more with Looting. Magma cream brews Fire Resistance and crafts magma blocks, and can also be crafted from blaze powder and a slimeball. See brewing potions.

How do you get froglights?

A frog that eats a small magma cube drops a froglight: ochre from a temperate frog, verdant from a cold frog and pearlescent from a warm frog. See frogs and froglights.

Does ArtemisPvP have a slime boss?

Yes: King Slime is an ArtemisPvP boss egg with 1500 health that also splits as it dies; see King Slime.
