Luck of the Sea Enchantment in Minecraft: What It Does
Luck of the Sea raises your chance of catching treasure (enchanted books, bows, rods, name tags, saddles, nautilus shells) by about 2% per level, and lowers junk. It goes well with Lure, which makes bites come faster.
Luck of the Sea at a glance
| Max level | III |
| Goes on | Fishing rods |
| Cannot combine with | None. |
| Where to get it | Enchanting tables, librarians, fishing and loot. |
Get enchantments from an enchanting table with bookshelves, from enchanted books on an anvil, from librarian villagers, or as loot (a few, like Wind Burst, only come from special loot such as ominous vaults); see enchanting and anvils.
What does Luck of the Sea do?
Each level adds about 2.1% to treasure chance and removes about 1.95% from junk. More: fishing.
More about Luck of the Sea
On Java, treasure catches only happen in open water, at least a few blocks of water in each direction, so fish in lakes or the ocean rather than small holes.
Enchanting tables use lapis lazuli and experience levels, anvils combine books and gear, and librarians sell books. Treasure enchantments only come from loot, trading and fishing, never the table, and higher levels cost more experience to apply and repair.
An enchanted book combines with an item of the right type at an anvil, and two books or items with the same enchantment at the same level merge into the next level up. Each anvil use raises the item's repair cost, so plan the order of your combinations and add Mending early.
Tips for Luck of the Sea
Luck of the Sea III plus Lure III and Mending is the best fishing rod. Every enchantment: every enchantment.
