Iron Armor in Minecraft: Stats and How to Get It
Iron armor gives 15 armor points for a full set and is the usual first real armor. Iron is common, so a full set is easy to make early, and it lasts much longer than leather or gold.
How strong is iron armor?
| Piece | Armor points | Toughness | Knockback resistance | Uses (Java) |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Helmet | 2 | 0 | 0 | 165 |
| Chestplate | 6 | 0 | 0 | 240 |
| Leggings | 5 | 0 | 0 | 225 |
| Boots | 2 | 0 | 0 | 195 |
A full set gives 15 armor points and has an enchantability of 9.
How do you get it?
Craft it from iron ingots. Armorers sell iron pieces, taiga village armories have iron on armor stands on Java, and piglins sometimes barter iron boots with Soul Speed.
Tips
An iron farm makes iron armor almost free. Its low enchantability makes table enchanting weaker, so books on an anvil work better.
How armor works
A full set takes 24 units of material: 5 for the helmet, 8 for the chestplate, 7 for the leggings and 4 for the boots. Armor points add up across pieces and show as the armor bar, but armor blocks a smaller share of very big hits, which is what armor toughness helps with. Armor loses durability as you take most kinds of damage, and Unbreaking makes it last longer. Each piece of Bedrock armor lasts 1 use longer than on Java. Repair armor in an anvil with its material, or with Mending. See armor and Protection and iron farms.
