Kill squid for ink sacs and glow squid for glow ink sacs. Ink sacs also come as rare fishing junk in stacks of 10.
What is it used for?
- Black dye
- Books and quills
- Glowing sign text (glow ink sac)

More about it
On Bedrock you can dye sheep and wolf collars with an ink sac directly. Glow ink on a sign also outlines the text so it is readable in the dark. A book and quill needs a book, an ink sac and a feather. Glow squid live in dark water deep underground, so look in flooded caves.
Tip
Use a normal ink sac on a glowing sign to turn the glow off again.
Items and recipes
Most items stack to 64 in one inventory slot; tools, armor, potions and a few others do not stack at all. The recipe book in your crafting screen shows every recipe you have unlocked, and picking up a new item unlocks the recipes that use it. In Creative mode every item is in the creative inventory, and with cheats on the /give command hands you any item by its ID. Items you drop disappear after 5 minutes on the ground, so pick up rare drops quickly. See crafting and squid.
