Honeycomb in Minecraft: How to Get It and Uses
Honeycomb comes from shearing a full bee nest or beehive, 3 at a time. It crafts beehives, candles and honeycomb blocks, and waxes copper so it never oxidizes. Using it on a sign stops anyone editing it.
How do you get a honeycomb?
Shear a bee nest or beehive at honey level 5. Keep a campfire under the nest so the bees do not attack, or use a dispenser with shears.
What is it used for?
- Waxing copper blocks, lightning rods and copper golems
- Crafting beehives and candles
- Honeycomb blocks for decoration
- Locking signs against edits
More about it
Waxed copper keeps its current color forever. Scraping it with an axe removes the wax again. A beehive takes 6 planks and 3 honeycomb, a candle takes a string and a honeycomb, and 4 honeycomb make a honeycomb block.
Tip
Put a campfire under the hive before shearing it, and the bees stay calm.
Items and recipes
Most items stack to 64 in one inventory slot; tools, armor, potions and a few others do not stack at all. The recipe book in your crafting screen shows every recipe you have unlocked, and picking up a new item unlocks the recipes that use it. In Creative mode every item is in the creative inventory, and with cheats on the /give command hands you any item by its ID. Items you drop disappear after 5 minutes on the ground, so pick up rare drops quickly. See crafting and bees.
