Hitboxes in Minecraft: How to See Them and Sizes

A hitbox is the invisible box around a mob, player or block that the game uses for collisions and hits. On Java press F3 + B to show entity hitboxes as white boxes, with a red line for eye height and a blue arrow for where the entity faces. A standing player's box is 0.6 blocks wide and 1.8 tall, and lower when sneaking or swimming.

How do you see hitboxes?

Java: press F3 + B to toggle hitbox display. Each entity shows a white bounding box, a red eye-height line and a blue view arrow; mounts show a green point where riders sit. Bedrock has no simple key for this. Debug keys: the F3 screen.

How big is the player hitbox?

PoseSize
Standing0.6 wide, 1.8 tall
Sneaking0.6 wide, 1.5 tall
Swimming, crawling or gliding0.6 wide, 0.6 tall

That is why sneaking lets you fit under 1.5-block gaps on both editions. Movement: sprinting, swimming and sneaking.

Why does eye height matter?

The eye position decides when an entity counts as underwater and starts drowning, or as inside a block and suffocating. A tall mob such as a wither skeleton can suffocate under a ceiling that a shorter mob fits under. See drowning and air.

Why do PvP players care?

Hits land when your crosshair is on the target's box within reach, so seeing hitboxes helps practice aim and spacing, and shows why small mobs are harder to hit. See reach distance and 1.8 vs 1.9 PvP.
