How to Build Iron, Snow and Copper Golems
Build an iron golem from four iron blocks in a T with a carved pumpkin on top, a snow golem from two stacked snow blocks with a pumpkin, and a copper golem from a pumpkin on a copper block. Iron golems guard you, snow golems throw snowballs, and copper golems sort items.
How do you make an iron golem?
Place four blocks of iron in a T shape and put a carved pumpkin or jack o'lantern on the centre top block; the pumpkin must go last. A golem you build never attacks players; it fights hostile mobs, flinging them into the air. It has 100 HP and drops 3-5 iron ingots and 0-2 poppies when killed. Villages spawn their own golems to defend them, and some sit in cages at pillager outposts.
How do you make a snow golem?
Stack two snow blocks and put a carved pumpkin or jack o'lantern on top. A snow golem throws snowballs at monsters (which makes them attack it), leaves a trail of snow as it walks (on Bedrock only in cool enough biomes), takes heat damage in hot biomes, and is immune to fall damage. Shear it to get its pumpkin back.
Snow golems can lure creepers in farms, but must stay 7 blocks away or the creepers explode; see mob farms.
How do you make a copper golem?
Put a carved pumpkin or jack o'lantern on a copper block. Added in 1.21.9, the copper golem has 12 HP, ignores fall damage and drowning, and sorts items: it takes items from a copper chest and carries them to other chests. It oxidises over time; fully oxidised and unwaxed, it turns into a statue. See copper and oxidation.
Which golem should you build?
| Golem | Recipe | Health | Job |
|---|---|---|---|
| Iron golem | 4 iron blocks (T) + pumpkin | 100 HP | Defends you and villages |
| Snow golem | 2 snow blocks + pumpkin | - | Throws snowballs, makes snow |
| Copper golem | 1 copper block + pumpkin | 12 HP | Sorts items between chests |
