Glass Bottles in Minecraft: Water Bottles and More
Glass bottles are crafted from 3 glass (making 3 bottles). Fill one at water or a water cauldron to make a water bottle, the starting point for every potion. Bottles also collect honey from full beehives and dragon's breath from the ender dragon, and a water bottle on dirt turns it into mud.
What are glass bottles used for?
| Use | How |
|---|---|
| Water bottle | Use on water, a water cauldron or (Java) a waterlogged block |
| Honey bottle | Use on a full beehive or bee nest |
| Dragon's breath | Use on the ender dragon's purple breath cloud |
| Mud | Use a water bottle on dirt, coarse dirt or rooted dirt |
| XP bottles | Bought from clerics, not crafted |
How do bottles fit into brewing?
Every potion starts as a water bottle in a brewing stand. Drinking a potion returns the empty bottle; throwing a splash or lingering potion does not. See brewing potions and the brewing stand.
Where do you get glass bottles?
Craft them from glass, which is smelted sand; see glass. Witches drop them, and drinking potions or honey gives them back. A water cauldron can fill 3 bottles.
Tips
Keep a stack of empty bottles at your brewing station, and a water source next to it. Empty bottles stack to 64. A full water cauldron holds 3 bottles of water, a handy water source in the Nether, where you cannot place water. Bottles are cheap, since one sand block smelts into one glass. Dragon's breath turns splash potions into lingering ones; see splash and lingering potions.
