Frozen Peaks Biome in Minecraft: Where It Is and What's There
Frozen peaks are high, icy mountain tops covered in snow, with glaciers of packed ice and small blobs of ice. They look smoother than jagged peaks and shine blue from the ice. On Java, goats are the only animals that spawn there.
Where does the frozen peaks generate?
They generate at the highest points where erosion is low, temperatures are low to moderate and weirdness is positive, as single peaks, rings of peaks or hilltops. Groves and snowy slopes surround them, and valleys separate them from jagged peaks.
What is in a frozen peaks?
- Snow and snow blocks over stone
- Glaciers of packed ice and small pieces of ice
- Packed ice cliffs on steep north or east sides (Bedrock only)
- Emerald ore and infested stone underground
Mobs and structures
On Java goats are the only passive mob; Bedrock adds rabbits and polar bears. Pillager outposts can generate on the cliffs. The deep dark is very common below, with dripstone caves above it.
How do you find one?
The fastest way to find one in a world with cheats is /locate biome minecraft:frozen_peaks, which works on Java and Bedrock (Bedrock uses its own IDs for some biomes, so let tab-complete fill it in). The F3 screen on Java shows the biome you stand in. The search covers a large area but can miss very narrow strips of a biome.
How biomes are placed
Overworld biomes are placed by a few hidden noise values: temperature, humidity, continentalness (how far inland), erosion (how flat) and weirdness. That is why the same neighbours keep showing up together, and why a biome you want is usually found next to its usual partners. Frozen peaks have big glaciers of packed ice, which you can mine with Silk Touch for ice boat roads.
