Foxes in Minecraft: How to Tame and Breed Them
Foxes live in taigas and groves: red foxes in taigas and dappled forests, snow foxes in snowy taigas and groves. They sleep during the day, hunt chickens and rabbits at night, and carry items in their mouths. You cannot tame a wild fox, but a baby you breed with sweet berries or glow berries trusts you and defends you.
How do you get a fox to trust you?
Lead two wild foxes together with sweet berries or glow berries and feed them; the baby that appears trusts you. Leash it and keep it close while it grows. A trusted fox does not run from you and attacks mobs that hurt you. Berries: berries.
Why do foxes carry items?
A fox picks up items near it and holds one in its mouth. 20% of foxes spawn already holding something, such as an emerald, a rabbit's foot, a feather, an egg, wheat or leather. Drop food and it will drop what it holds to take the food. Give a fox a Looting sword and it gets the bonus when it kills.
How do foxes behave?
- They sleep in the day when sky light is 14 or less and wake if you get close without sneaking.
- At night they hunt chickens, rabbits, fish and baby turtles, and raid berry bushes and villages.
- They screech at night unless a trusted player is near.
- They pounce from high up and can jump over fences when chasing.
How strong are foxes?
10 health and 2 damage (3 on Hard), and they drop 1-3 experience. Color is inherited from the parents, not the biome where the baby is born. Biomes: taigas. Other animals: parrots, llamas, foxes and axolotls.
