The /fillbiome Command in Minecraft: Change Biomes
/fillbiome changes the biome of an area on Java Edition: /fillbiome
How does /fillbiome work?
Biomes are stored in 4 by 4 by 4 block cells, so the command changes whole cells, and the edges are blended, so the result is not exactly the box you typed. Some changes may only show after the chunks reload. Both corners work like /fill.
What changes with the biome?
- Grass, leaf and water colors.
- Which mobs spawn: rabbits appear in a new desert even if it still looks like a forest.
- Weather: rain can become snow, and snow golems in a hot biome take damage.
- Biome effects such as sky and fog color.
- Biome guide: biomes.
What are some examples?
/fillbiome ~-20 ~-10 ~-20 ~20 ~10 ~20 minecraft:mushroom_fields: no hostile mobs spawn there, a classic safe base trick; see mushroom fields./fillbiome ~-20 ~-10 ~-20 ~20 ~10 ~20 minecraft:cherry_grove replace minecraft:plains: changes only the plains cells.- Making a snowy area for a build, or a pale garden for a spooky map.
What are the limits?
It is Java only and needs permission level 2. It does not plant trees or replace blocks; use /place for features. The area has a size limit like /fill, so very large areas need several commands.
Is there a Bedrock version?
No command does this in normal Bedrock; world editors are used instead. See Bedrock commands.
