Endermites in Minecraft: Why They Spawn From Ender Pearls
Endermites are tiny purple hostile mobs with a 5% chance to appear whenever a player's ender pearl lands. They bite players within 16 blocks, despawn on their own after 2 minutes unless named, and endermen attack them on sight from up to 64 blocks away, which is why name-tagged endermites are the bait in enderman XP farms.
When do endermites spawn?
Each player-thrown ender pearl has a 5% chance to spawn one when it lands: at the spot you threw from on Java, or where the pearl landed on Bedrock. They do not spawn naturally anywhere else. See ender pearls.
How dangerous are endermites?
- They are small, fast arthropods that bite; Bane of Arthropods hurts them more.
- They give 3 experience when killed by a player.
- On Java, other endermites join in if you attack one.
- They despawn within 2 minutes no matter how close you are, unless named with a name tag.
Why are endermites used in enderman farms?
Endermen hate endermites and go after one they can see within 64 blocks. A named endermite in a minecart or boat at the right spot draws endermen to a kill point, making End XP farms fast. See enderman farms and XP farms.
Are endermites the same as silverfish?
No. Both are small arthropods, but silverfish hide in infested stone and call friends, while endermites only come from ender pearls. See silverfish.
