End Highlands Biome in Minecraft: Where It Is and What's There
The End highlands are the hill-tops in the middle of each outer End island. They are the only biome where chorus trees grow naturally, and End cities generate here, so this is where you find shulkers and elytra.
Where does the end highlands generate?
This biome appears only in the End, past the gateway from the main island. Each outer island has highlands in the center, with midlands and barrens around the edges.
What is in a end highlands?
- End stone
- Chorus trees, the only natural ones in the game
- End cities, some with End ships
- Endermen, as everywhere in the End
Mobs and structures
Endermen spawn here, and shulkers guard End cities. There is no weather and no day or night cycle.
How do you find one?
On Java, with cheats on, use /locate biome minecraft:end_highlands to find the nearest highlands; on Bedrock the whole End is one biome, so look for End cities and chorus trees on the outer islands instead. The F3 screen on Java shows the biome you stand in.
How biomes are placed
The End has five biomes: the central main island, then highlands, midlands, barrens and small islands on the outer islands. Unlike the Overworld, End biomes are placed by position and island shape, not by temperature or rain, and they are Java only: Bedrock treats the whole End as a single biome called the_end. See all biomes and End cities.
Tip
Bring ender pearls to reach the outer islands, and chorus fruit, which teleports you a short distance at random.
