End Cities, End Ships and Shulkers
End cities are purpur towers on the outer End islands, guarded by shulkers and full of enchanted iron and diamond gear. Some have an End ship, the only place to find elytra and a dragon head. Shulkers drop shulker shells (50% each), the only way to make shulker boxes.
How do you get to an End city?
End cities generate on the large outer End islands, where chorus trees grow. Beat the Ender Dragon first: that opens an End gateway, the easy way across the roughly 1,000-block gap.
What loot is in an End city?
- Enchanted iron and diamond tools, weapons and armour in the chests.
- On some cities, an End ship with elytra in an item frame and a dragon head; see elytra.
- Purpur blocks, End rods and the Spire armour trim (6.7% per chest).
How do you fight shulkers?
A shulker is a box-shaped mob found only in End cities. It hides in its shell and fires homing bullets that give Levitation for 10 seconds, floating you up about 9 blocks, a real danger over the void. With its shell closed it has 20 armour points and deflects arrows, so hit it while it is open. Below half health it may teleport away.
- Carry blocks or a slow-falling plan in case Levitation lifts you off an edge.
- Bullets break when hit with any item, shot with an arrow or blocked with a shield.
- Use a sword when the lid is open; arrows bounce off the closed shell.
How do you get shulker shells?
Shulkers drop a shulker shell 50% of the time (up to 68.75% with Looting III on Java). A shulker hit by a shulker bullet while its lid is open can duplicate, which is how shulker farms work. Shulker shells and a chest make a shulker box.
