Minecraft /effect Command: Give Speed, Night Vision and More
Type /effect give @s night_vision infinite on Java, or /effect @s night_vision infinite on Bedrock, to give yourself a status effect. /effect adds or removes effects like Speed, Strength or Invisibility for a time you choose, at a level you choose, and needs cheats or operator rights.
How does /effect work?

Leave the seconds out and you get 30 seconds. Use the word infinite instead of a number for an effect that never runs out (it shows as ∞). Instant Health, Instant Damage and Saturation count in game ticks rather than seconds, so 1 is enough.
Why is my effect one level lower than I typed?
The amplifier starts at 0: 0 means level I, 1 means level II, 4 means level V. So /effect give @p speed 60 1 gives Speed II for 60 seconds. The highest amplifier is 255. Set the last argument to true to hide the swirling particles (and, on Java, the icon in the corner).

What happens if you already have the effect?
On Java a new effect only replaces the old one if it is longer or stronger; a stronger but shorter effect hides the weaker one, which comes back when the strong one ends. On Bedrock a higher level always takes over, and the same level only takes over if it lasts longer. Drinking a potion follows the same rules; see brewing potions.
