Dark Forest Biome: Mansions, Daytime Mobs and Mushrooms
Dark forests (also called roofed forests) have a canopy so thick that it blocks sunlight, so hostile mobs can spawn and hide from the sun there even in daytime. They are one of the two biomes where woodland mansions generate, and they grow dark oak, oak, some birch and both kinds of huge mushroom. Lush caves often lie underneath.
Why is the dark forest dangerous?
The dense leaves often block the sky completely. Without sunlight, hostile mobs can spawn during the day and stay shaded from the sun. Bring torches and light a path if you travel through. See mob spawning.
Where are woodland mansions?
Dark forests, together with their pale garden variant, are the only biomes where woodland mansions generate on Java (Bedrock also has dark forest hills). Mansions are rare, huge, dungeon-like buildings full of rooms and loot, and one of the only places where evokers and vindicators spawn. See woodland mansions.
What grows in a dark forest?
- Dark oak, oak and sometimes birch trees, with leaf litter on the ground; trees here never generate with bee nests.
- Both huge mushrooms, red more common than brown.
- Dark oak saplings only grow when 4 are planted in a 2x2 square.
Where do dark forests generate?
At moderate temperatures with very high humidity, usually next to birch forests, and also beside jungles, bamboo jungles, windswept forests and old growth taigas. They can never border biomes with villages. Plateaus and mountain slopes inside them are often replaced by the pale garden, home of the creaking. See the creaking.
