Creative Mode in Minecraft: Flying, Infinite Blocks and Tips
Creative mode gives you every block and item for free, lets you fly by double-tapping jump, and makes you invincible to almost all damage. Blocks break instantly (except while holding a sword, trident, mace or spear) and drop nothing. Switch to it with /gamemode creative if cheats are on; on Bedrock, Creative turns off achievements for that world.
What can you do in Creative?
- Fly: double-tap jump, then jump to rise and sneak to sink; double-tap again to drop.
- Infinite items: the Creative inventory has almost every block and item in tabs with a search bar, including spawn eggs.
- Instant breaking of every block, even bedrock and end portal frames, with a short 0.3-second gap when you hold the button.
- Longer reach than in Survival for placing and breaking.
- No health or hunger bars: on Java only the void and commands such as /kill or /damage can hurt you; on Bedrock you cannot be hurt at all.
What is pick block in Creative?
Middle-click (or the pick block control) on a block to put it in your hotbar, on a mob to get its spawn egg, or on an item frame to get the item inside. On Java, holding Ctrl while you pick also copies the block's contents, such as a full chest. Every key: Minecraft controls.
Do items work differently?
Yes: items do not get used up or lose durability, so putting an item in a frame or on an armor stand copies it. If your hotbar and inventory are full, picked-up items are deleted. Breaking a block drops nothing, though containers still spill their contents.
How do you switch to Creative?
