How to Make Concrete in Minecraft (Concrete Powder)

Craft concrete powder from 4 sand, 4 gravel and 1 dye (it makes 8), then let it touch water: it hardens into solid concrete of that color. Concrete comes in all 16 dye colors, has a flat bright look builders love, and must be mined with a pickaxe or it drops nothing.

How do you make concrete step by step?

  • Craft concrete powder: 4 sand + 4 gravel + 1 dye of any color = 8 powder (red sand does not work).
  • Place the powder so it touches water on any side, or drop it into water: it turns into concrete instantly.
  • Mine the concrete with a pickaxe (any tier). Mined without one it drops nothing.
  • Fast method: stand in water, place powder in front of you and mine it right away, or pour a water bucket over a wall of powder.

Powder falls like sand, so you can drop a column of it into a pond. Rain and splash water bottles do not harden it. All 16 dyes: dyes.

Is concrete better than wool or terracotta?

BlockLookStrengthBurns?
ConcreteSmooth, bright, flat colorBlast resistance 1.8, needs a pickaxeNo
WoolSoft texture, brightBreaks fast, any toolYes
TerracottaMatte, muted colorsBlast resistance 4.2, needs a pickaxeNo

Concrete is the go-to color block for modern builds; terracotta gives softer earthy tones. See terracotta.

What else is concrete good for?

  • Pixel art and map art, because each color is one solid tone.
  • Colored floors and walls that cannot burn and do not need Silk Touch.
  • Parkour courses and minigame maps; see parkour.
  • A pickaxe with Efficiency mines it fast; see every enchantment.

Why is my concrete powder not turning into concrete?

It has to touch a water block (source or flowing). Rain and splash water bottles do not count. If you dropped it and it landed on a block above the water, it stays powder. Need sand? Deserts and beaches have plenty; see biomes.

Can you buy color blocks on ArtemisPvP?

Yes: ArtemisPvP's /shop has Building Blocks, Glass, Terracotta and Wool & Carpet pages; see Shop.
