Chase the Skies (1.21.6)
1.21.6, Chase the Skies, is the Java Edition game drop released on 17 June 2025. It adds the happy ghast you can ride, the player locator bar, new music, the "Tears" music disc, craftable saddles and environmental fog.
How do you get a happy ghast?
It starts as a dried ghast block, found in Nether fossils in soul sand valleys, bartered from piglins, or crafted from 1 soul sand and 8 ghast tears. Put the dried ghast in water and it hydrates into a ghastling, the baby, which grows up into a happy ghast.
A happy ghast has 20 HP. Put a harness on it (3 leather, 2 glass and 1 wool) and up to four players can ride it at once, turning it into a mount for a whole group.
What is the locator bar?
The locator bar is a new HUD element that shows the direction of other players. It replaces the experience bar while it is showing. Coloured markers appear when you face within 120 degrees of a player, and arrows show when they are above or below your view.
What else came with Chase the Skies?
- Saddles can now be crafted from 3 leather and 1 iron ingot.
- The "Tears" music disc by Amos Roddy, dropped when a ghast is killed by a fireball a player deflected.
- New background music.
- Environmental fog.
How do you ride a happy ghast with friends?
Equip the harness, then up to four players can climb on. Ghastlings and adult happy ghasts can also be summoned for testing with a spawn egg or the /summon command.
The happy ghast spawn egg was added in the same drop.
