Chaos Cubed (26.2)
26.2, Chaos Cubed, is the Java Edition game drop released on 16 June 2026. It adds the sulfur caves biome, the sulfur cube mob, sulfur and cinnabar blocks, an experimental Vulkan renderer and an in-game friends list.
What are sulfur caves?
Sulfur caves are a new biome found underground and inside hills and mountains. They have bands of yellow sulfur and red cinnabar, pools of potent sulfur, and spawn sulfur cubes plus cave spiders instead of normal spiders. Above them, sulfur springs can appear on the surface in four sizes, from small to extra large.
Sulfur and cinnabar each come with stairs, slabs, walls, polished and brick versions and a chiseled block. Sulfur spikes form stalactites and stalagmites; a falling stalactite hurts, and thrown tridents break them.
How do potent sulfur geysers work?
Under up to 4 water source blocks, potent sulfur releases a cloud of gas that causes nausea and spreads up to 3 blocks across the water. Put magma below it and 1-4 water blocks above, and it becomes a geyser that erupts about every 50 seconds, pushing entities upward for 4-5 seconds without hurting them. Each water block above adds roughly 7 blocks to the plume. With lava underneath instead, the eruption never stops.
What is the sulfur cube?
The sulfur cube is a passive, slime-like mob with 8 HP that counts toward the hostile mob cap. Give it a block and it swallows it, stops moving and becomes a ball you can punch and push; shears take the block back out. What the block is made of changes how it moves: wood makes it bouncy, wool makes it light, ice makes it slide, and TNT makes it explosive, with a 6-second fuse when lit by fire or redstone. A large sulfur cube can be picked up in a bucket, and killing one splits it into two small ones. Feed small ones slimeballs to grow them.
