Carved Pumpkin in Minecraft: How to Get It and Uses
A carved pumpkin is made by using shears on a pumpkin. You can wear it as a helmet so endermen ignore your gaze, build golems with it, and craft it with a torch into a jack o'lantern, which gives light level 15 even underwater.
How do you get a carved pumpkin?
Use shears on a placed pumpkin; it also drops 4 pumpkin seeds on Java. Shearing a snow golem's head also gives one.
What is it used for?
- Wearing it so endermen do not get angry
- Building snow, iron and copper golems
- Jack o'lanterns for light
- Halloween decoration
More about it
Unlike most light-15 blocks, a jack o'lantern counts as a valid spawning surface for mobs that ignore light. Wearing a carved pumpkin blocks part of your view. A snow golem needs 2 snow blocks and a carved pumpkin; an iron golem needs 4 iron blocks in a T shape and a carved pumpkin on top.
Tip
Use jack o'lanterns to light underwater bases.
Items and recipes
Most items stack to 64 in one inventory slot; tools, armor, potions and a few others do not stack at all. The recipe book in your crafting screen shows every recipe you have unlocked, and picking up a new item unlocks the recipes that use it. In Creative mode every item is in the creative inventory, and with cheats on the /give command hands you any item by its ID. Items you drop disappear after 5 minutes on the ground, so pick up rare drops quickly. See crafting and pumpkins.
