Build Battle
Build Battle is a creative minigame: every player gets the same theme and a time limit, builds on their own plot, and the players vote on each other's builds to pick a winner.
What is Build Battle in Minecraft?
Build Battle swaps swords for blocks. Each round gives a theme, every player builds alone or with a partner on a plot, and when time runs out everyone tours the builds and votes. The best-voted build wins. Because each player usually builds in Creative mode, materials never run out; the only limits are time and ideas.
Creative mode gives you an infinite supply of blocks and the ability to fly, and it breaks blocks instantly, which is why Build Battle plays so differently from survival minigames.
Did Minecraft ever make an official Build Battle?
It was planned. minecraft.wiki records a Legacy Console Edition mini game called Build Off, closest to the Build Battle mode on Java servers, where players would compete in themed building contests and vote for a winner. 4J Studios hinted at it at MINECON 2016, but it was most likely cancelled; one known problem was fairness. Parts of it, such as music cues and a leaderboard, were left in the game's code.
How do you win Build Battle?
- Read the theme twice and build the obvious idea well rather than a clever idea badly.
- Block out the big shape in the first minute, then add detail.
- Use colour: wool, concrete and terracotta make a build readable from far away.
- Finish the area around the build too; voters see the whole plot.
- Vote honestly; most servers reward fair voting.
