Bowl in Minecraft: How to Get It and Uses

A bowl holds stews and soups: mushroom stew, beetroot soup, rabbit stew and suspicious stew. After you eat, you get the empty bowl back. Using a bowl on a mooshroom fills it with stew for free.

How do you get a bowl?

Craft 3 planks in a V shape for 4 bowls. Bowls also come from fishing (about 1%) and from adult turtles struck by lightning.

What is it used for?

  • Crafting stews and soups
  • Milking red mooshrooms for mushroom stew
  • Milking brown mooshrooms for suspicious stew (after feeding them a small flower)
  • Furnace fuel in a pinch

More about it

As fuel, a bowl smelts half an item on Java and 1 item on Bedrock. Bowls stack to 64, but filled stews do not stack, so each meal takes its own slot. Mooshrooms have no cooldown, so you can fill bowl after bowl from the same one.

Tip

Keep a few empty bowls when you raise mooshrooms; one bowl and one mooshroom give endless food.

Items and recipes

Most items stack to 64 in one inventory slot; tools, armor, potions and a few others do not stack at all. The recipe book in your crafting screen shows every recipe you have unlocked, and picking up a new item unlocks the recipes that use it. In Creative mode every item is in the creative inventory, and with cheats on the /give command hands you any item by its ID. Items you drop disappear after 5 minutes on the ground, so pick up rare drops quickly. See crafting and mushroom stew.

Does ArtemisPvP have custom items?

Yes: ArtemisPvP has custom gear on top of vanilla items; see Gear.
