Blaze Rods and Blaze Powder in Minecraft
Blaze rods drop from blazes in Nether fortresses. One rod crafts a brewing stand (with cobblestone) or 2 blaze powder. Blaze powder fuels brewing stands, brews Potions of Strength, and is half of every eye of ender. A blaze rod is also strong furnace fuel, smelting 12 items, and end rods are made from one.
How do you get blaze rods?
Kill blazes, which spawn only in Nether fortresses; each drops 0-1 rods, more with Looting. A blaze spawner farm is the usual way to collect many. See blazes and Nether fortresses.
What do blaze rods and powder make?
| Item | Use |
|---|---|
| Brewing stand | 1 blaze rod and 3 cobblestone |
| Blaze powder | 1 rod makes 2 |
| Eye of ender | Blaze powder and an ender pearl |
| Magma cream | Blaze powder and a slimeball |
| Fire charge | Blaze powder, gunpowder and coal |
| End rods | A blaze rod and popped chorus fruit |
Brewing: brewing potions. Eyes of ender: finding a stronghold.
How long does blaze powder fuel a brewing stand?
Each blaze powder powers 20 brewing steps, so up to 60 potions with three bottles each time. Keep spare powder, since eyes of ender, which you need to find and open the End portal, are made with it. A brewing stand with no blaze powder cannot brew at all.
Is a blaze rod good furnace fuel?
Yes: 120 seconds of burning, enough to smelt 12 items, better than coal's 8. Lava buckets are the best fuel; see furnace fuel.
Frequently asked questions
