Best Minecraft PvP Settings: FOV, Sensitivity, FPS

minecraft.wiki's PvP guide recommends an FOV above 80-85, FOV Effects and Damage Tilt turned off, Auto-Jump off and sprint set to Toggle, and graphics turned down (Fast, lower render distance, unlimited frame rate) for more FPS. Pick a sensitivity you can track with, rebind hotbar keys you can reach, and then stop tweaking: settings make fights comfortable, they do not add skill.

Which settings should you change for PvP?

SettingRecommendedWhy
FOVAbove 80-85Enemies cannot strafe out of view easily, but stay big enough at the edge of reach
FOV EffectsOffStops the screen warping when you sprint or get hit
Damage TiltOffStops the screen shaking in fights
Auto-JumpOffRecommended by the guide alongside Toggle sprint
SprintToggleKeeps you sprinting without holding a key
GraphicsFastMore FPS on weaker PCs
Render distanceLowerMore FPS
Max frame rateUnlimitedMore FPS
ParticlesOff or lower (optional)Crit and totem particles can block your view, but then listen for sounds

See how to improve FPS for more frame rate settings.

What sensitivity and keybinds are best?

There is no single best sensitivity. Too high and your crosshair shakes so you cannot track an opponent; too low and you cannot turn fast enough to follow someone moving quickly. The guide also notes that lower mouse DPI and sensitivity keep the crosshair steadier. For keybinds, the guide advises against the default 1-9 because keys past 4 or 5 are awkward to reach; rebind them to keys you can reach quickly. See controls.

Do PvP texture packs help?

They are optional. Some vanilla textures block your view, such as food, explosion particles, swords, fire and off-hand items, so packs that shrink those are recommended by the guide. Packs that change little else are called overlays. See mods and resource packs.

Should you use mods or a PvP client?

The guide calls performance mods such as Sodium essential and mentions PvP clients like Lunar Client and Feather Client, whose modules help in combat. Always check a server's rules before using any client mod. Clicking technique is covered in CPS and clicking.

Which version should you use for PvP on ArtemisPvP?

ArtemisPvP is built for 1.8.9 combat, and Java players can join on any version from 1.8.9 up to 26.2 (Bedrock players can join too); see How to join.
