Minecraft Bedrock on PC: Windows, Mac and the Bundle
On PC, Bedrock Edition runs on Windows 10 and later (and on Chromebooks with ChromeOS); it does not run on macOS. Since 7 June 2022, Java and Bedrock for PC are sold together as one bundle, Minecraft: Java & Bedrock Edition for PC, so buying one gives you both, and the Minecraft Launcher lists Bedrock as Minecraft: Bedrock Edition.
Which computers can run Bedrock?
On Windows, Bedrock Edition needs Windows 10 and up; older Windows versions cannot run it. It also runs on recent ChromeOS devices. macOS cannot run Bedrock Edition (only Minecraft Education runs on Mac, outside the normal launcher), so Mac players use Java Edition, which runs on Windows, macOS and Linux. See system requirements and every Minecraft edition.
Do you get Bedrock if you buy Java on PC?
Yes. Since 7 June 2022 Java Edition for PC and Bedrock Edition for Windows have been sold as one bundle, Minecraft: Java & Bedrock Edition for PC. Launcher 3.0.13 (10 September 2024) renamed "Minecraft for Windows" in the launcher to Minecraft: Bedrock Edition.
What changed with Bedrock on Windows in 1.21.120?
From 1.21.120, Minecraft for Windows moved from the old UWP app format to Microsoft's GDK, the platform used for Xbox games. It now starts through a small launcher helper that installs updates and can sign you in before the game opens.
Can you play Bedrock with a controller on PC?
