Bed Wars

Bed Wars is a team minigame where every team has a bed on its own island: while your bed stands you respawn after dying, and once it is broken your next death knocks you out. The last team left wins.

What is Bed Wars in Minecraft?

Bed Wars is one of the minigames minecraft.wiki lists as a staple of minigame servers, next to Sky Wars, Spleef and Capture the Flag. The Java Edition PvP tutorial describes the core rule in one line: each player or team has a bed that lets them respawn as long as it has not been destroyed.

That single rule shapes the whole match. Early on, dying costs you only time, because you come back at your bed. The moment the bed goes, the team is playing with one life each, and every fight becomes final. minecraft.wiki notes that minigames like this usually come with their own rules and a shop or class system; on Bedrock's The Hive, Bed Wars players buy weapons, armour, blocks and utility items with iron, gold, diamonds and emeralds from generators.

Why does the bed matter so much?

In normal Minecraft a bed sets your spawn point: sleeping in it, or using it in the daytime, moves your respawn to that bed, and several players can share one bed. Bed Wars borrows exactly that idea and makes it the objective. Defending the bed is therefore the first job of every team, and the usual answer is to cover it in layers of different blocks so attackers need several tools to dig through.

Beds also explode when someone tries to sleep in the Nether or the End. That explosion has power 5, stronger than TNT at 4, which is why beds are a cheap explosive in vanilla PvP. Minigame servers normally control this, but it is worth knowing why a bed is more than a spawn point.

How do you play a round of Bed Wars?

  • Collect resources from the generator on your island and from the generators in the middle of the map.
  • Spend them at the shop on blocks, weapons, armour and tools, and on upgrades for the whole team.
  • Cover your bed in blocks before anyone reaches it.
  • Bridge to another island, break its bed, then eliminate its players.
  • Watch the void: in vanilla, falling far enough below the world drains about 4 HP every half-second, whatever armour you wear.

What are the best Bed Wars tips?

  • Buy blocks first. You cannot defend a bed or reach anyone without them.
  • Use a mix of blocks over your bed so one tool is never enough.
  • Bridge low and watch behind you: knockback is the real killer near the edge.
  • Keep an ender pearl for emergencies. A pearl teleports you where it lands and costs 5 HP of damage, with a 1 second cooldown.
  • Do not leave the bed empty late in the game. One player at home stops most sneak attacks.

Can you play Bed Wars on ArtemisPvP?

Yes. On ArtemisPvP every team has a bed and respawns while it stands; iron, gold, diamonds and emeralds come from the generators and are spent at the shopkeepers on each island. Final kills pay 25 Minigame Points, assists on final kills 10, and breaking a bed 15. On ArtemisPvP the Bed Wars and the other minigames are played from the /g menu. Every game pays the same Minigame Token prizes: 10 for 1st place, 4 for 2nd, 3 for 3rd, 2 for 4th and 1 for 5th, plus Minigame Points for kills and other actions. Each game carries a Point/Token multiplier that rises by 0.25x every time the game fails to start, up to 3x. Full rules and rewards: Minigames on Artemis PvP.
