Baked Potato in Minecraft: Hunger and Saturation
A baked potato restores 5 hunger and 6 saturation, the same as bread. Potatoes are easy to farm, so baked potatoes are one of the cheapest good foods.
How much does baked potato restore?
| Hunger | 5 |
| Saturation | 6 |
Each hunger point is half a drumstick, so 5 hunger is 2.5 drumsticks.
How do you get it?
Smelt potatoes in a furnace, smoker or campfire. On Java, zombies killed by fire drop baked potatoes. Trial chambers and ancient cities hold them too.
Tips
Wandering traders sometimes buy 4 baked potatoes for an emerald. Baked potatoes compost better than raw ones.
More about baked potato
A raw potato restores just 1 hunger, so baking it gives five times as much. A smoker cooks food twice as fast as a furnace, which makes potato farms quick to turn into meals.
How hunger works
Hunger points refill the hunger bar (20 points, 10 drumsticks), and saturation is a hidden buffer that drains first. With 18 or more hunger, or any saturation, health regenerates naturally; at 6 or less you cannot sprint, and at 0 you take starvation damage. Most foods take 1.6 seconds to eat, and you cannot eat at full hunger except a few special foods. Foods with high saturation keep you healing longer, which matters most in fights. Raw food cooks the same in a furnace, a smoker or a campfire: smokers are twice as fast, and campfires need no fuel at all. See food and hunger and crop farming.
