Amplified and Large Biomes Worlds in Minecraft

Amplified and Large Biomes are Java world types. Amplified stretches the terrain upward, so hills and mountains often pass Y=255 and sometimes reach the Y=320 limit, with deep caverns down to bedrock. Large Biomes keeps normal heights but makes biomes about 4 times wider, so each covers 16 times the area. The Nether and End stay normal.

What is an amplified world like?

Huge peaks dwarf even normal mountain biomes, with very steep cliffs and floating-looking overhangs. Oceans and rivers may look nearly normal. Villages still generate. Survival is harder: falls are long and getting around takes ladders, water or elytra. The game warns that amplified needs a powerful computer, because generating the terrain uses a lot of memory and CPU.

What is Large Biomes like?

Climate zones are about 4 times the normal scale, so a desert or jungle can go on for thousands of blocks. The same seed does not give the same map as a default world. Rare biomes become even rarer to stumble on, and starting in a harsh biome is harder to escape, so a map helps; see maps.

How do you make one?

On the World tab press World Type until it shows Amplified or Large Biomes. On a server set level-type in server.properties before the world is generated. Lower render distance if amplified lags.

Does Bedrock have amplified?

Bedrock has no amplified or large biomes option in its world screen. The old Xbox One and PlayStation 4 console editions had an Amplified World option, but terrain there only reached Y=128. Other types: world types.

Do seeds work the same?

A seed gives a different map in Amplified or Large Biomes than in Default, so a seed list made for normal worlds will not match. Try the seed and explore; see world seeds.
