Amethyst Geodes: How to Find Them and Farm Amethyst
Amethyst geodes are round underground structures between Y=-58 and Y=30, with an outer shell of smooth basalt, a layer of calcite and a hollow inside of amethyst. Budding amethyst inside slowly grows crystals that drop 4 amethyst shards when broken with a pickaxe. Budding amethyst cannot be moved, so the geode itself becomes the farm.
How do you find an amethyst geode?
They generate between Y=-58 and Y=30, and each chunk has a 1 in 24 chance to try to place one. 95% have a crack that shows the purple inside, and they often cut into caves, aquifers and canyons, so look for smooth basalt and calcite in cave walls. See ore Y levels.
What is a geode made of?
- Outer layer: smooth basalt.
- Middle layer: calcite.
- Inside: mostly amethyst blocks, with 8.3% budding amethyst, which grows the crystals.
How does amethyst grow?
Crystals grow on budding amethyst in four stages: three bud sizes and then the full amethyst cluster. Only a full cluster drops shards: 4 with a pickaxe, 2 by any other method, and more with Fortune. Buds drop nothing unless mined with Silk Touch. Budding amethyst itself drops nothing, even with Silk Touch, and breaks, dropping nothing, if a piston pushes it, so build your farm around the geode where you found it.
What is amethyst used for?
Amethyst shards craft spyglasses, tinted glass and calibrated sculk sensors, colour armour trims, and duplicate an allay that is dancing to a jukebox. See armour trims.
Does ArtemisPvP reward mining?
