Adventure Mode in Minecraft: For Maps and Servers
Adventure mode is Survival without breaking or placing blocks, made for custom maps and servers so players cannot ruin the build. You still have health and hunger, can fight mobs, trade with villagers, flip levers and press buttons, open doors and craft. Map makers give special items that may break or be placed on chosen blocks only.
What can you do in Adventure mode?
- Take damage, eat, die and respawn, like Survival.
- Fight and kill mobs and players, and trade with villagers.
- Use levers, buttons, doors, trapdoors and fence gates, so redstone puzzles work.
- Place boats and ride minecarts.
- Craft items and use your inventory normally.
What can't you do?
Break or place blocks, unless the map maker gave you an item with the can_break or can_place_on component (Java) or the can_destroy and can_place_on components (Bedrock) that names those blocks. On Bedrock, a player with the worldbuilder ability can build anyway. Making such items: the /give command.
Who uses Adventure mode?
Adventure maps, parkour courses, puzzle maps, and minigame lobbies on servers, so visitors cannot dig through walls. Set it with /gamemode adventure and make it the default with /defaultgamemode adventure on Java. See /gamemode and parkour.
How is Adventure different from Survival?
Only in building: in Survival you can mine and place anything; in Adventure the world is protected. Everything else, from hunger to mobs, works the same. Compare every mode: game modes and difficulty.
