Minecraft End questions, answered
The End is where the Ender Dragon lives. Here is how to get there, win the fight, reach the outer islands and get back alive.
How many eyes of ender do you need for an End portal?
A full End portal has 12 frame blocks. Some already have eyes in them, so you may need fewer than 12.

Can you make an End portal in survival?
No. End portal frames cannot be crafted or mined in survival. You must use the one in a stronghold.
What happens when you go into the End portal?
You arrive on an obsidian platform near the main island, where the Ender Dragon is waiting.

How do you get out of the End?
Kill the Ender Dragon and step into the exit portal that appears in the middle, or die and respawn in the Overworld.

How much health does the Ender Dragon have?
The Ender Dragon has 200 health points, which is 100 hearts.

What are end crystals for?
End crystals on the obsidian pillars heal the Ender Dragon. Destroy them first, with arrows or by climbing up.
Some crystals sit inside iron bars, which you must break first. Crystals explode when hit, so do not stand next to them.

How do you make an end crystal?
Craft 7 glass around 1 eye of ender with 1 ghast tear at the bottom. Four on the exit portal respawn the dragon.

How much XP does the Ender Dragon give?
The first kill drops 12,000 experience points, enough for about level 68 from zero. Later kills give 500.

Why does the dragon breath hurt?
Dragon breath is a cloud of acid the dragon spits. Stand outside the purple cloud. You can collect it in glass bottles.

What weapon is best for the Ender Dragon?
A bow with Power is best for the crystals and while the dragon flies. Hit it with your sword when it perches on the portal.

Can the Ender Dragon destroy blocks?
Yes. It breaks most blocks it flies through, except obsidian, End stone and a few others.

What do endermen do in the End?
The End is full of endermen. Do not look at their faces. Wear a carved pumpkin on your head so they ignore your gaze.

How do you get to the outer End islands?
After the dragon dies, an End gateway appears. Throw an ender pearl into it to teleport about 1,000 blocks to the outer islands.

End cities, End ships, chorus trees, shulkers and endermen. It is where you find elytra and shulker shells.
How do you find an End city?
Explore the outer islands; End cities are tall purple towers. Many players fly with elytra later or bridge from island to island.

An End ship is a flying ship next to some End cities. It holds the elytra, a dragon head and two loot chests.

Does every End city have an elytra?
No. Only End cities with an End ship have elytra, and each ship holds one.
What do shulkers drop?
Shulkers drop shulker shells, which craft shulker boxes. Their bullets make you float with Levitation.

How do you get back from the outer islands?
Go back through the End gateway with an ender pearl, then use the exit portal on the main island. Or die to respawn at home.

What is the void in the End?
The void is the empty space under the islands. Falling into it kills you and destroys your items.
