Bosses

How do you beat the Ender Dragon?

Destroy the End crystals on top of the obsidian pillars first - they heal the dragon - then hit it with arrows while it flies and with melee when it lands on the exit portal. It has 200 health (100 hearts).

How do you spawn the Wither?

Place 4 soul sand or soul soil blocks in a T shape and put 3 wither skeleton skulls on the top three. The last block placed has to be a skull.

The wither is the only source of Nether stars, which you need to craft a beacon. Wither skeleton skulls drop from wither skeletons, which live in Nether fortresses.

Source: Minecraft Wiki - Wither, Minecraft Wiki - Nether Fortress

How do you get wither skeleton skulls?

Kill wither skeletons in Nether fortresses. Each one has a 2.5% chance to drop a skull, plus 1% per level of Looting on Java (5.5% with Looting III).

A wither skeleton killed by a charged creeper's explosion always drops its skull. You need three skulls to summon the Wither.

How do you get a Nether star in Minecraft?

Kill the Wither: it drops a Nether star when it dies. Its main use is crafting a beacon.

Explosions cannot destroy a dropped Nether star. On Java, a star dropped by the Wither despawns after 10 minutes, so pick it up quickly.

Source: Minecraft Wiki - Nether Star

Where do you find the Warden?

In the deep dark, usually around ancient cities. A warden is summoned when a player sets off a sculk shrieker four times.

The warden is blind and finds you by vibrations and smell. If it detects nothing for 60 seconds it digs back down and despawns.

Is there a boss in the Nether?

No boss spawns there on its own. Minecraft has two bosses - the ender dragon in the End and the wither, which you summon yourself with soul sand and wither skeleton skulls from Nether fortresses.

What happens after you kill the Ender Dragon?

The exit portal home switches on and a new End gateway opens to the outer End islands (with End cities and elytra). Its first defeat also gives 12,000 experience.

Each later kill adds another End gateway, up to 20. You can bring the dragon back by placing four End crystals around the exit portal, one on each side.

Is the Ender Dragon a girl or a boy?

Officially, no gender: a Mojang developer has said all Minecraft mobs are genderless. Notch once referred to the dragon as "she".

Source: Minecraft Wiki - Ender Dragon

What do you get for killing the Warden?

A sculk catalyst - that is its only drop. The warden is not a boss and has no special loot; the treasure of an ancient city is in its chests.

Source: Minecraft Wiki - Warden, Minecraft Wiki - Ancient City

What's the point of killing the Wither?

The Nether star it drops - the only source of Nether stars, which you need to craft a beacon.

Source: Minecraft Wiki - Wither, Minecraft Wiki - Beacon

How do you get the Warden to go away?

Stay still and quiet. A Warden is blind and finds you by vibrations and smell, and if it detects nothing for 60 seconds it digs back into the ground and despawns.

It spawns when sculk shriekers in the deep dark go off four times, so sneak to avoid setting them off. A Warden with a name tag does not dig away.

Other mobs

What is the strongest mob in Minecraft?

In Java Edition, by health, the warden: it has 500 health (250 hearts), more than the wither (300) or the ender dragon (200). It is blind and tracks you by vibrations and smell.

Why do Endermen attack when you look at them?

Looking at an enderman's head for a quarter of a second from within 64 blocks makes it hostile - that is how endermen are built. Wearing a carved pumpkin on your head lets you look safely.

Water, rain and splash water bottles hurt endermen, and they teleport away from danger.

Are there different types of piglins in Minecraft?

Yes. The Nether has the normal piglin, the piglin brute and the zombified piglin. Normal piglins barter for gold, brutes are always hostile, and zombified piglins only fight back when attacked.

Piglin brutes carry golden axes and are placed in bastion remnants when the world is generated, so they never respawn and do not care about gold. Baby piglins exist too; they never grow up and take gold without giving anything back.

Source: Minecraft Wiki - Piglin, Minecraft Wiki - Piglin Brute, Minecraft Wiki - Zombified Piglin

Why do piglins keep attacking me?

Piglins are hostile to any player who wears no golden armor. Wearing at least one golden armor piece keeps them calm.

They also turn on you if they see you open or break a chest, barrel or other container, break gold blocks or gold ore, or hit a piglin. Piglins up to 16 blocks away join in, even without seeing you.

Source: Minecraft Wiki - Piglin

How do you befriend a piglin in Minecraft?

You cannot tame piglins, but wearing one piece of golden armor stops them attacking you. Then you can throw them gold ingots to barter.

Do not open containers or mine gold near them, and do not hit them, or they turn hostile again.

Source: Minecraft Wiki - Piglin

How does piglin bartering work?

Drop or hand a gold ingot to an adult piglin. It looks at the ingot for about six seconds on Java (eight on Bedrock), then drops a random item in return.

Baby piglins take the ingot and give nothing. Piglins also pick up gold nuggets but do not barter for them.

How does a Minecraft creeper explode?

When a creeper gets within 3 blocks of you, it stops, hisses, swells and explodes 1.5 seconds later. Step back out of range and the countdown stops.

It only explodes while it can see you the whole time. Lighting a creeper with flint and steel makes it explode at once.

Source: Minecraft Wiki - Creeper

How can I survive a creeper explosion in Minecraft?

Raise a shield toward the creeper: a creeper blast can be fully blocked with a shield or by blocks between you and it. Otherwise, back away as soon as it hisses.

Breaking line of sight also stops the fuse, because a creeper needs to see you for the full 1.5 seconds.

Source: Minecraft Wiki - Creeper

How do you stop creepers from exploding?

Keep a cat or ocelot nearby, since creepers run away from them within 6 blocks. Breaking line of sight or stepping out of range also cancels a fuse that has started.

Creepers also never start the fuse if they cannot see you, even when you hit them.

Source: Minecraft Wiki - Creeper

What is a charged creeper?

A charged creeper is a normal creeper hit by lightning (a strike within 4 blocks). Its blast is stronger, and mobs it kills, like zombies, skeletons and creepers, drop their heads.

It also makes a wither skeleton it kills drop a wither skeleton skull every time.

Source: Minecraft Wiki - Creeper

How do I get slime in Minecraft?

Kill slimes: the smallest slimes drop slimeballs. Slimes spawn in swamps at night (Y 51 to 69, low light) and underground in slime chunks below Y 40.

A large slime splits into smaller ones when it dies, and only the small ones drop slimeballs. Baby pandas can sneeze one out too.

Source: Minecraft Wiki - Slime, Minecraft Wiki - Slimeball

Why is slime so rare in Minecraft?

Only about 1 in 10 chunks is a slime chunk, and underground slimes spawn only in those chunks below Y 40. Swamp slimes need night-level light and are most common on a full moon, never on a new moon.

On Java, which chunks are slime chunks depends on the world seed. On Bedrock they sit at the same spots in every world.

Source: Minecraft Wiki - Slime

What can you do with slimeballs in Minecraft?

Slimeballs craft slime blocks, sticky pistons and magma cream. They are also used to breed frogs.

Source: Minecraft Wiki - Slimeball

What are the types of skeletons in Minecraft?

Besides the normal skeleton there are strays (snowy biomes, Slowness arrows), bogged (swamps, Poison arrows), parched (deserts, Weakness arrows) and wither skeletons (Nether fortresses, Wither effect).

Wither skeletons carry stone swords instead of bows and are the only source of wither skeleton skulls, which you need to summon the Wither.

How do you make an iron golem in Minecraft?

Place four iron blocks in a T shape and put a carved pumpkin or jack o'lantern on top of the middle block last. The golem appears straight away.

A golem you build never attacks you and fights hostile mobs. Golems that villagers spawn can turn on players who hurt them or who have a bad reputation in the village.

Source: Minecraft Wiki - Iron Golem

Is it worth killing an iron golem?

An iron golem drops 3 to 5 iron ingots. A golem that villagers spawned fights back as soon as you hit it.

If you need a lot of iron, an iron farm uses the fact that villagers keep spawning golems.

Source: Minecraft Wiki - Iron Golem

What is a ghast in Minecraft?

A ghast is a large floating hostile mob in the Nether that shoots exploding fireballs. Hit a fireball back and it can kill the ghast in one hit.

Ghasts are the only source of ghast tears, used for potions of Regeneration, end crystals and dried ghasts. Their passive cousin is the happy ghast.

Source: Minecraft Wiki - Ghast, Minecraft Wiki - Ghast Tear

What is the breeze in Minecraft?

The breeze is a hostile mob from trial chambers. It jumps around, fires wind charges, and bounces back every projectile except wind charges, so fight it up close.

Breezes only come from trial spawners in combat rooms of trial chambers. They drop breeze rods, used for wind charges and the mace.

Source: Minecraft Wiki - Breeze, Minecraft Wiki - Breeze Rod

Can the creaking be killed in Minecraft?

Not directly: a creaking linked to a creaking heart takes no damage at all. Break the creaking heart it came from and the creaking dies with it.

Creakings spawn at night from creaking hearts in pale oak trees. A creaking cannot move while a player in Survival or Adventure is looking at it, and it never leaves 32 blocks around its heart.

Source: Minecraft Wiki - Creaking

Why did my villager turn into a witch?

Lightning struck within four blocks of it. A villager hit that way turns into a witch for good: it cannot be changed back, and it never despawns.

Witches throw splash potions such as Harming and Poison and drink potions to heal themselves. When a witch dies while drinking, it can drop that potion.

What kills a blaze in Minecraft?

Snowballs: each one deals 3 damage to a blaze, and water or rain hurts it too. Blazes live in Nether fortresses, often around their own spawners.

Blazes are the only source of blaze rods. A rod crafts a brewing stand or blaze powder, and blaze powder fuels brewing stands and crafts eyes of ender.

Source: Minecraft Wiki - Blaze, Minecraft Wiki - Blaze Rod

What does a phantom do in Minecraft?

Phantoms are flying undead mobs that swoop down to bite you at night. They only spawn once you have gone at least 3 in-game days without sleeping (or dying).

Sleep in a bed to stop them. Phantoms keep at least 16 blocks away from cats, and their membranes repair elytra.

Villagers and golems

What are all the villager jobs in Minecraft?

There are 13: armorer (blast furnace), butcher (smoker), cartographer (cartography table), cleric (brewing stand), farmer (composter), fisherman (barrel), fletcher (fletching table), leatherworker (cauldron), librarian (lectern), mason (stonecutter), shepherd (loom), toolsmith (smithing table) and weaponsmith (grindstone).

A villager takes the job of the job site block it claims. Nitwits never get a job, and a villager who has already traded with you keeps its job.

Source: Minecraft Wiki - Villager

Do villagers ever forgive you in Minecraft?

Mostly, yes. Villagers remember what you did as gossip, and every 20 minutes that gossip fades a little. The exception is the good reputation from curing a villager, which never fades.

Source: Minecraft Wiki - Villager

Why do villagers get angry when breeding?

Breeding failed: the villagers could not find a free bed they could walk to within 48 blocks, so they show angry particles instead of making a baby.

Source: Minecraft Wiki - Villager

How do you breed villagers in Minecraft?

Give villagers enough food to be willing (12 nutrition points each, for example from bread) and make sure there are free beds they can walk to. Willing villagers near each other then make a baby.

Each baby needs a bed with at least two empty blocks above it. Job site blocks are not needed for breeding.

Source: Minecraft Wiki - Villager

How do you cure a zombie villager?

Give it Weakness (a splash potion of Weakness works), then use a golden apple on it while the effect lasts. After a while it turns back into a normal villager.

Source: Minecraft Wiki - Zombie Villager

How do you trade with villagers?

Use (right-click) a villager that has a job to open its trades, then swap items - mostly emeralds - for what it sells. Prices change with your reputation.

Curing a zombie villager is one way to get much better prices from it.

What does a copper golem do in Minecraft?

A copper golem is a mob you build that sorts items: it takes items out of copper chests and puts them into nearby wooden chests that are empty or already hold that item.

Build one by placing a block of copper and putting a carved pumpkin or jack o'lantern on top last.

Unless you wax it with honeycomb, it slowly oxidises and finally turns into a copper golem statue, dropping what it carries.

Raids

What starts a raid in Minecraft?

A raid starts when a player with the Raid Omen effect is in a village when the effect runs out. You get Raid Omen by entering a village with Bad Omen, which comes from drinking an ominous bottle.

Ominous bottles drop from raid captains, often found at pillager outposts. Drinking milk before Raid Omen runs out cancels the raid.

On Java, one villager is enough: any bed, job site block or bell claimed by a villager counts as a village for a raid.

Source: Minecraft Wiki - Raid, Minecraft Wiki - Pillager Outpost

What happens in a Minecraft raid?

Waves of pillagers, vindicators, evokers, witches and ravagers spawn and attack the village. A horn sounds at the start of each wave; beat every wave to win and get Hero of the Village.

Source: Minecraft Wiki - Raid

Does killing a pillager start a raid?

Not a normal pillager. A raid captain - the pillager with an ominous banner, often found at pillager outposts - drops an ominous bottle; drinking it gives you Bad Omen, and walking into a village with Bad Omen leads to the raid.

Source: Minecraft Wiki - Pillager Outpost, Minecraft Wiki - Raid

What do you get for beating a raid in Minecraft?

If you killed at least one raider and every raider in the last wave dies, you get the Hero of the Village effect: villagers give you trade discounts and like you more. On Java, villagers also throw you gifts linked to their job.

Raiders drop their usual loot too, and evokers drop a totem of undying. A raid that drags on for 40 minutes expires.
